What is Intergroup

Recovery, Unity, Service — these are the Three Legacies given to A.A. by its founders. There are many opportunities to help carry the message to the still suffering alcoholic.  If you want to know more about A.A.’s service structure, visit

The purpose of Intergroup, as described in our by-laws, is to serve the Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.) groups in District 5 of South Florida within Area 15 of the General Service Conference as follows:

  1. Provide a telephone answering service (AA Hotline), manned by A.A. members, to receive calls from the still suffering alcoholic requesting help and pass them on to A.A. members for 12th Step work.
  2. Maintain a library of A.A. conference approved literature for sale as needed by the groups.
  3. Maintain and publish a list of A.A. meetings within the District, in accordance with the 12 Traditions of A.A.
  4. Maintain an office where the above activities can be efficiently carried out, under the supervision of the Steering Committee (SC).
  5. Maintain an internet website that will contain meeting lists, Treasurer’s report, minutes from the meetings of both the Intergroup Representatives (IGR) and the (SC) meetings and other pertinent information.

Membership in the Intergroup is open to all A.A. groups/meetings in District 5, South Florida Area. “A.A. Groups” mean those groups registered with G.S.O. in New York, and any other A.A. meetings that are not so registered.

The IGR meeting consists of representatives of the member groups/meetings known as (IGRs) and Alternate Intergroup Representatives (AIRs) who are chosen by each group/meeting.

The Twelve Traditions of A.A. governs all activities of the Intergroup. We are entirely self-supporting in accordance with A.A.’s Seventh Tradition, through voluntary contributions of member groups/meetings, individual member contributions, ongoing activities of Intergroup subcommittees, as well as the sale of AA Conference approved literature and other items approved by the Steering Committee.
